Northern Pines Resort In 2006, Doug and Patty Weinhert purchased an existing lodge and cottages on the shores of Butternut Lake in beautiful Northern Wisconsin. Entering the incredibly competitive resort business in the “Northwoods” required a look that captured the raw beauty of the lake, maintained the fishing heritage of the area as well as appealed to the tourists that drove the local economy. Signalfire developed a logo that looked to the past with a “rustic” logo that just as easily could have come out of a 1930’s Outdoor Life issue. An iconic Muskie was used because of the tournaments held on the lake every year and the aggressive fight it is known for. The four-color process logo was paired with a green pallet for the business cards, letterhead and envelopes. Later that year, Northern Pines returned to Signalfire for brochures and menus for the lodge’s restaurant. Both employed a weathered leather background that highlighted the outdoor feel to Northern Pines Resort and Northern Wisconsin as a whole.
